The bridge over the Vecht River connecting Kaatsbaan and Breedstraat in the center of Maarssen is known as the Kaatsbaan Bridge. Some Maarssen residents know it as the Stokse Bridge, but its official name has been the Evert Stok Bridge since 2007. Evert Stok was a bridge keeper and was fatally injured shortly after the war on May 29, 1945, when the bridge sling struck a military vehicle while it was still partially open. Until 1823, the bridge was a single bascule bridge, but the passage proved too narrow for shipping. A double bascule bridge, like the one in Breukelen, was built, and it remained in service until 1935. The municipality installed a single bascule bridge, and the small bridge keeper's house was built parallel to the Vecht. The bridge and the house have been registered as Municipal Monuments since 2005. Source: https://www.historischekringmaarssen.nl/historie/monumenten/bruggen/

Beautiful path, but in the high season you have to share this path with a lot of cyclists, so plan your trip early and on a weekday is my advice!

Unusual bridge, where traffic is often at a standstill. Be careful!

The cycling route offers occasional glimpses of the water, but truly relaxing with a view during a break is almost exclusively possible here, as nearly everywhere else is private property. There are a few other spots, but they aren't as nicely landscaped.

The Roode Brug (Rood Bridge) is a bridge over the Vecht River in Utrecht. This small red drawbridge is located between Anton Geesinkstraat and Loevenhoutsedijk, and more broadly connects the Ondiep and Loevenhoutsedijk neighborhoods and the surrounding area. It is a narrow bridge, only wide enough for one car at a time, but there is two-way traffic. The bridge is named after the medieval court of Roode Brug (Rood Bridge). The Vecht River was partially canalized around this location in the Middle Ages, with meanders being cut through. This occurred around 1300 near the Bemuurde Weerd. The construction of the Nieuwe Vecht followed around 1338.

The castle was built in a relatively short time and has dominated Woerden's city center ever since. The first mention dates from 1415 and can be found on a drawing for the castle's construction. Based on this document, it is assumed that construction began in 1410. Steward Heynric Hermans is considered the first resident. He was an innkeeper and represented the Duke of Brabant, Jan van Beieren, who built the castle in Woerden. Even then, the castle served as a safe haven for the Duke's guests. The towers are connected by stone-vaulted corridors. At the end of the 15th century, it was used as the official residence of the Bailiff of the Land of Woerden. It retained this function until the end of the 18th century. In the 19th century, it served as a prison for men for a time, and later for women. Afterward, it served as a central warehouse for military supplies, a function the castle retained until the early 1980s. Now, more than 600 years later, Woerden Castle is known as the premier event venue in the Groene Hart region and serves as a safe haven for all its guests.
