A beautiful gate, but also fun to watch the bridge in action. On the other side of the water, opposite the gate, there's a bench. It's nice to wait there for a boat to arrive and enjoy the swing bridge opening and closing.

On February 3, 1943, this bomber was shot down and crashed just outside Montfoort. The bomber was returning from a mission to Hamburg. All 8 crew members were killed and are buried in the cemetery in Montfoort. In the small city museum of Montfoort you can find more information about this tragic event where 8 young people lost their lives.

Interesting point, where two waterways meet with a lock. And a combination of historical city gate and city hall. Only a pity about the large amount of traffic signs at the bridge.

THE GREAT OR ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH. The 'Great Church' is a spacious medieval church, with a characteristic saddle roof tower dating from the fourteenth century and a Kam en Van der Meulen organ from 1840, which has approximately 30 voices. It is certain that a small church already stood on the same site around the year 1000. For more than 10 centuries, the worship of God has been held on this site around the preaching of the Gospel.
