This narrow path is lined with willow avenues, large gardens, and old farmhouses. The path follows the Vlist River, a river that served as a reservoir for the surrounding polders and was a major transport route for goods. Today, the Vlist is especially popular with hikers, cyclists, and canoeists.

The Wilhelmina van Pruisenbrug is a drawbridge for pedestrians and cyclists in Hekendorp, spanning the Hollandsche IJssel River. Built in 1992 to replace a ferry, it is named after Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia, who was arrested nearby in 1787. The bridge is electrically operated by a pushbutton and is primarily used during the sailing season. It is part of the historic and touristic Princess Route.

Julianasluis drawbridge

The Haastrecht Hefbrug is a striking, manually operated drawbridge over the Hollandse IJssel River, built in 1883 to replace a ferry. It connects the center of Haastrecht with the Stein district and has become a historical and cultural icon. The bridge opens only a few times a day and sometimes causes waiting times for recreational boaters.

The official name is Lange Weidsche Boezem and is part of the drainage system of the Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden and runs from the Dubbele Wiericke to the Hollandse IJssel.

Uitspanning Goejanverwelle is a charming café-restaurant in Hekendorp, in the heart of the Groene Hart region. It offers a varied menu of Dutch and French dishes, daily specials, and homemade apple pie. With a sunny terrace, friendly service, and a rural setting, it's a popular stop for hikers and cyclists. Prices are affordable, and the café is generally open daily.

Sat there on the terrace again this week. Certainly a nice break with all those boats, walkers and cyclists!
