The Baanhoek Bridge is a type of truss bridge over the Beneden Merwede. This railway bridge is located in the Dordrecht – Geldermalsen section on the Merwede Lingelijn, between the stations Sliedrecht Baanhoek and Dordrecht Stadspolders. Just like the first station mentioned, the bridge is named after the Baanhoek hamlet, which is close to Sliedrecht. you can walk via this bridge to the other side, the Biesbosch.

The memorial Merwedeg Hostages in Sliedrecht (municipality of Sliedrecht) was erected in memory of the 589 young men who were arrested during a raid on 16 May 1944. On May 16, 1944, during a raid in Sliedrecht and Hardinxveld, 589 young men between the ages of 18 and 25 were arrested and brought together at the Grote Kerk in Sliedrecht and the School with the Bible in Hardinxveld. All but a small number of these men were taken to camp Amersfoort. After seven weeks, a large group was allowed to return home. The men who were not so lucky were sent to labor camps in Germany. Twelve of these men from Sliedrecht died there as a result of heavy work, too little food and diseases. The raid was a retaliatory action by the occupying forces after the shooting of two NSB members by the resistance.

The water tower in Sliedrecht was designed by architect Jan Schotel. In 1886 the water pipe was laid, and this tower was also built. For this, they had to rely on ditch and river water. The tower is located on the site of the Zaai. Fire hydrants were also connected to the water pipes in the dike at the time.

The Dijksynagoge foundation is located in Sliedrecht. The old synagogue, dating from 1845, is located in Sliedrecht East, at 51 Rivierdijk. The synagogue is now popularly known as the Dijksynagoge. In the first place because it was built on the dike, in the second place to distinguish itself from all other synagogues in the world, none of which – as far as we know – exist that are also located on a dike. When it was founded, the foundation set itself the goal of preserving the building for the future and in the first place making it suitable for worship. In view of the relatively small number of Jewish inhabitants in the area, and the fact that a service is only held occasionally, the emphasis of the activities is on use for other purposes. In 2002 the building was relocated and refurbished and many activities are now taking place, which may or may not be organized and/or facilitated by the foundation board. You will find the Dijksynagoge at Rivierdijk 51 in Sliedrecht. The property is easy to find from the A15 by taking the Sliedrecht-Oost exit. Then you go up the dike, into Sliedrecht and the first building on your right, under the high-voltage pylon is the Dijksynagoge.
