Repairs to the cycle track started on 16th June 2025. Expected to last 3 months. There are signs in place to say the track is closed in places, however, I managed to complete my ride by taking minor detours. Just be aware different parts may be closed on different days.

Recently been resurfaced and well worth a visit. Also a nice coffee stop on route, along with a tesco much further down.

Nothing technical around here but good trails and not too hilly. You can follow the canal into Leeds or Temple Newsam or take the Linesway up to Garforth. Lots of options available.

Rothwell Castle was originally an 11th century timber castle or fortified manor house, founded by Ilbert de Lacy. From the 13th century, it was used as a royal hunting lodge, by the kings of England and was once owned by John of Gaunt.

A little walk around the chuch yard with some interesting stones St. James' congregation gives a warm welcome both to those who live in the small village of Tong, and to others in the local area. Our main Sunday worship is at 9.30am. All are welcome The church building is fascinating - for whilst the present building as it stands dates from 1727, there is still evidence of the Norman church of 1140, and of the medieval additions. Earlier remains of a Saxon church were found beneath the present building at the time of a major restoration in 1980.

Is there a cycle club in or around Gomersal/Batley/Cleckheaton area?

There are lots of interesting artworks made from scrap industrial metal along the Spen Valley Greenway. You can rest your legs on a hand-crafted metal bench and throw away your picnic waste in a unique rubbish bin. The flock of ‘Swaledale Sheep’ made from recycled industrial scrap by Sally Matthews are one of the highlights on the way. The impressive sculptures overlook the green rolling hills of West Yorkshire.

Thought it was time I photographed these metal sheep sculptures, which have been displayed along a disused railway track, now known as the Spen Valley Greenway. There are many pieces of metal sculpture along the track so it’s well worth a visit.

Traffic free route on a converted railway line from Low Moor to Dewsbury (maybe further?). Quite popular with dog walkers and runners with headphones in, so watch out for that.
