Picturesque village. A little gem. good cafes close by.

Beautiful Bungay. peaceful and tranquil

despite the peace and quite watch outdoor Muntjac and other deer charging out of the bushes that have been spooked by passing cars on the bypass

Good cafe. Pickles were an aside. Points of interest. Take it or leave it.

I'm sure they're great but not really what you'd call ride food.

Quintessential traditional country pub, in a lovely village setting with a nice pub garden behind and some more seating to the front.

Remains of a small ruined castle, mainly an impressive gatehouse and some adjoining curtain wall. In private ownership so not accessible.

Was a pub but now a cafe. The jungle refers to the abundance of planters and potted plants everywhere! Outdoor space front and back. Relocated from its former premises at Metfield.

Excellent artisan coffee and tasty cakes. Cycle-friendly, with open level access and outdoor seating. The cycle rail is a bit high off the ground though: my bike was swinging in the wind!

The Black Dog Deli near the top end of the main shopping street is a good option for a cafe stop, with plenty of space out front. Open 8am-4pm Mon-Sat.

Mettingham Castle is a fortified manor house that was created in the 14th Century. Given to monks to create a college, after the dissolution of the monasteries it was sold into private hands. From here, you can see the Gatehouse only, but it's in very good condition thanks to English Heritage. You can't get close to the building, but it's an impressive site nonetheless.

The Wherry Inn is a great option for a pitstop on any walk in this part of the Broads. It serves traditional English pub food and has a range of refreshments available too. In summer, you can enjoy drinks in the courtyard and beer garden, while in winter there's the option of getting snug and warm by the open fire.

The Grade I-listed Norman Bungay Castle became the seat of the Bigod family, allies of King William during the conquest of 1066. The Bigods were charismatic leaders among the barons and oversaw the construction of the keep in the latter half of the 12th century. Today, Bungay Castle is an impressive ruin, with its two huge gate towers still intact. However, throughout 2023, the castle was closed for restorations.

Originally built in 1958 as a grain silo, and decommissioned in 2016, this imposing building now takes on a new lease of life. A tall building standing proudly boasting some of the best views in Suffolk… Etude Coffee is now the most unique coffee shop in the Waveney Valley. Serving specialty coffees and teas and soft drinks and sweet and savory pastries and cakes provided by The Black Dog Deli. After you cross the bridge it looks like private land but it’s totally fine and a public footpath

Brilliant little café. Different treats on display, as well as coffee. Lots of seating both inside and out.
