On the cycle path between Newry and Portadown, the gentle idyll of Northern Ireland unfolds in all its splendor. The route winds its way past lush green meadows where cows graze peacefully, through a wonderfully quiet landscape. The gentle rise and fall of the fields, the vastness of the sky and the gentle rustling of the wind create a unique atmosphere of relaxation. A lovely small clearing with a few picnic tables and the Yellow Water river running beside it. The small car park is a good place to leave the car for one of the many walks in this area.

Perfectly placed on the beautiful Shores of Carlingford Lough, this was a 13th century Norman keep, a replacement tower house and bawn was built at Narrow Water in the 16th century. The replacement structure, built in the 1560's, was a typical example of the tower houses built throughout Ireland at the time. The castle was damaged during the Irish Rebellion of 1641, and sold to the Hall family in the 1670's. It was occupied by the Hall family until they built an "Elizabethan revival style" mansion in the early 19th century. This Mansion is also called Narrow Water Castle.

Great starting point for many walks in the southern Mournes. From the car park go through the gate, over the wee bridge and then take your choice of right to Yellow Water and Rostrevor, Straight up to Pierces Castle or left towards Rocky mountain.
