뉴리(Newry) 시를 뒤로하고 나면, 카링퍼드 러프 그린웨이(Carlingford Lough Greenway)라고도 불리는 안 벨라흐 글라스(An Bealach Glas)에서 평온함을 향해 자전거를 타게 됩니다. 이 평평하고 매끄럽게 포장된 길은 운하둑을 따라 이어지며, 강가의 갯벌 지대의 멋진 풍경을 선사합니다. 이곳에서는 수많은 도요새와 때로는 길 잃은 물개까지 볼 수 있습니다. 이 경로는 진정한 감각적 경험을 선사합니다. 짠 바닷바람이 얼굴을 스치고 산은 점점 더 가까워지는 것처럼 보입니다. 이 구간의 최종 목적지는 1850년에 지어진 인상적인 수문 시설인 역사적인 빅토리아 록(Victoria Lock)으로, 운하에서 카링퍼드 러프(Carlingford Lough)의 탁 트인 바다로 이어지는 전환점을 표시합니다. 해안으로 여정을 계속하기 전에 잠시 바람을 쐬고 해양의 역동성을 즐기기에 완벽한 장소입니다.

바스락거리는 나무들 사이로 뉴리 운하 견인로를 따라가다 보면 잠잠한 수문지기 오두막의 고요한 폐허를 만나게 됩니다. 한때 이곳은 수로의 자랑스럽고 번잡한 중심지였으며, 수문지기는 지나가는 배들을 위해 운하의 무거운 나무 문을 조작하기 위해 밤낮으로 준비했습니다. 오늘날에는 튼튼한 돌담만이 남아 자연에 천천히 잠식되고 있습니다.

Poyntzpass 남쪽의 잔잔한 운하 구간으로, 둑길이 좁은 물가를 따라 곧게 뻗어 있습니다. 강둑은 낮은 나무와 울타리로 약간 덮여 있어 구간에 친밀하고 푸른 인상을 줍니다. 물은 대부분 고요하며 탁 트인 농경지를 가로질러 직선을 이룹니다. 둑길에서 조용한 거리를 달리기에 이상적인, 고르고 교통이 없는 구간입니다.

The well-signposted mountain bike trails take you through dense forests and offer breathtaking views of Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains. The descent from the Cloughmore Stone, a huge boulder that was transported here during the last ice age, is a particular highlight. However, some sections are technical and require a certain level of riding technique. The trails can become slippery in wet weather, so caution is advised. Another plus point is the proximity to the charming village of Rostrevor, where you can relax in one of the cafes after the tour.

There is something enchanted about this old, dilapidated stone hut - as if it were whispering stories of times gone by, when the canal was still full of life and the lock keepers worked here day and night. The walls, overgrown with greenery and moss, show how nature is slowly reclaiming its place. The building itself is only a ruin, but that is precisely what makes it somehow interesting. The mixture of broken brickwork and wild growth has something melancholic about it that fits perfectly into the tranquility of the surroundings. Right next to it there is a small rest area with a bench - ideal for stopping for a moment and taking in the atmosphere.

There’s heaps to do when you visit Kilbroney park so bring a picnic, kids, dogs, bikes, walking boots and enjoy the day. Start at the Visitor Centre and learn about the forest and extraordinary Cloughmore Stone. There are tennis courts, play area, sports fields, an arboretum, walking and bike trails in the forest. Fiddler’s Green was once used for local entertainment and festivals.

There's riverside walks, including the Fairy Glen and Narnia Trail, and an arboretum. The two mile forest path showcases panoramic views over the beautiful Carlingford Lough. There is also a Play Park with children's play area and tennis courts, an Information area and a cafe.
