"The "Hindenburgstein" is located near the "Heuneburg" car park at the end of Lichtenberg. The inscription “Hindenburgstein 1915” can be found on a small sign. The rock is named after Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff and von Hindenburg (October 2, 1847 to August 2, 1934), former German “Field Marshal” and politician. He was the second and last Reich President of the Weimar Republic. Why is this rock with his name here in the forest? Supposedly this goes back to soldiers in the time of the First World War, who were in Lichtenberg for convalescence. At that time there was a convalescent home in the building that now houses the "Lichtenberger Institute", which is why it is also popularly called "Barracks". Lichtenberg Castle Little is known about the origins of Lichtenberg Castle, which stood on the site of today's castle in the Middle Ages. Count Diether III. (Count von Katzenelnbogen between 1190 and 1214) married a Bertha von Lichtenberg, this could indicate an already existing castle in Lichtenberg. The first documentary mention of Lichtenberg is assumed to be in the year 1228: Count Diether IV. von Katzenelnbogen called himself comes (Count) de Lichtenberg at the district court in Heppenheim. In general, it is assumed that it was created around 1200. It is also assumed that the castle was built before 1254 by Count Diether IV von Katzenelnbogen. A document from 1295 has been preserved, in which Count Palatine Rudolf, as feudal lord, allowed Count Wilhelm von Katzenelnbogen to bequeath Lichtenberg Castle and its accessories to his wife Irmengard as a dowry.
