In October 1977, the German Federal Railway (DB) sidinged the last steam locomotive – and a new history began: The German Steam Locomotive Museum was built in Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg at the foot of Europe's first railway line, the "Schiefen Ebene" (Slanted Level). It is the largest specialized museum of its kind in Germany: More than 30 steam locomotives from both ancient and modern eras offer a comprehensive insight into German railway history. Visitors can marvel at preserved locomotives in the locomotive shed, which otherwise only run on model railway tracks. A special highlight of the exhibition is the salon dining car from 1937. After more than 70 years of service to the Reich and Federal Chancellors, it commemorates important events in German political history.

From the viewing platform, you can get a good view of the "Schiefen Ebene" line and take some great photos. This spot is especially popular during the "Whitsun Steam Days."

The chicken coop is very poorly designed and there are far too many chickens in a very small space. No animals were to be seen in the other coop.

Nice place to relax, stroll or just enjoy a bit of art.
