“What do you think the Steibeck is enough for on the loaf in the cheesecake?” The first historical record of our delicate white-brown pastry goes back to 1939. The reason for this “invention” was simple: they wanted to use the excess cream from the Kemmeriboden Bad farm, which was run next to the inn. So around 80 years ago, the bakers Christian and Berta Oberli-Probst, also known as “dr Steibeck”, and the innkeepers of the Kemmeriboden Bad, Liseli and Hans Gerber, put their heads together and tinkered around with the sweet snow. From then on, the locals, as they walked past the bakery, wondered what the noise was that they kept hearing. Today, as it was then, our Kemmeriboden Merängge is a masterpiece of craftsmanship by the bakers. Many small details play a central role in the perfection of our homemade pastries.
