The focal point of the town center is the market square, which, with its remarkable town houses and old Franconian half-timbered buildings, exhibits an unusual sense of cohesion and is widely known as the "Festival Hall of Franconia." The market square's crowning glory is the tubular fountain, built in 1727. The fountain column features the goddess Minerva, the protector of local trades. The fountain's frame is adorned with the colorful and historic coats of arms of Brandenburg and Württemberg, as well as the imperial eagle and Feuchtwangen's city coat of arms, the spruce tree.

On the fountain's column, as well as on a plaque on the neighboring house, the legend is inscribed: Emperor Charlemagne, who died in 814, hunted in this area a few years before his death. He got lost in the forest and was tormented by intense thirst. Then he saw a dove take flight, and hurrying to this spot, he came to the source of this little fountain. Refreshed, his hunting party soon found him again, and out of gratitude to God, he built a church and monastery near the spring, thus becoming the founder of the town of Feuchtwangen.

According to legend, Charlemagne was nursed back to health by this spring. This is also noted on the pedestal.
