Recommended in combination with the small Sonnstein, but not on its own, as the view is only possible from the very front at the edge and the view from the small Sonnstein is much nicer and there is more to see from there.

The path to the small Sonnstein is well signposted and recommended for children aged 10-12 and over. The Sonnstein Hut is open on Sundays and public holidays from Easter to the end of October and every day during the summer holidays. There are often a lot of hikers out and about, so it is sometimes worth climbing it outside of the season. The great view over the Traunsee to the foothills of the Alps is worth it.

Before you reach the cross, you have to cross a secured area with a rope. It's worth it because the view of Lake Traunsee and Traunstein and the surrounding mountains is wonderful.

To avoid the boring path along the main road (Traunkirchen-Ebensee), we recommend the old mountain path. This leads from the kl. Sonnstein (h 520m) to the center of Traunkirchen.
