This wooden cross dates back to a time when there was no GPS, and everyone traveled on foot or by carriage. They were important for orientation and were therefore often erected on major traffic routes.

The parish church of St. Margaretha in Oberau was first mentioned in a document from 1394. For a long time the church was the only one in the Wildschönau area. In 1416 there was only one church in this region. Since the veneration of the patron saint Saint Margaret only became widespread at the time of the Crusades, it can be assumed that the church was not built before the 11th century. The church building was built in late Baroque style. It is strictly cubic. The facade is simple and smooth. A decorative exception is the sculpted figure of Saint Margaret, which can be admired above the entrance portal. The three onion domes of the 47 meter high church tower also look characteristic and elegant. The light and shiny interior consists of a ship of 42 meters long and 16 meters wide. The design of the interior was entrusted to experienced church artists. The five altars, the pulpit and the confessionals are richly decorated. The organ dates from 1896 and was last renovated in 2011.
