Lovely secluded little bay

The rockiest part of this is heading west directly before and after the hillfort. Everything else is a delight, especially the bridge to that hill over clevedon

Nice rugged coastal walk.

The small cove at Layde Bay is one of the prettiest beaches along the Somerset coast. A small stretch of sand between the rocks and backing onto the densely vegetated cliffs. This is a pleasant beach to soak up the sun but swimming is not generally advised as with many of the beaches along the Bristol Channel coast. There can be strong currents as the tide moves and the sand towards the low water mark is decidedly muddy. That said Ladye Bay is home to the annual “Long Swim” which covers about a mile down to Clevedon Pier. Layde Bay is also a popular climbing spot with a variety of climbs. The path south of here is extremely sketchy and steep. Probably best to head back to the road or down the bridleway to the east and then south.

Abbotts Pool is a lovely little lake surrounded by woodland. You reach the lake via a network of lanes and bridleways. It lies on the NCN Route 334. The pools were closed in 2020 due to littering and anti-social behaviour. Makes sure you leave no trace so that humans can enjoy the beautiful spot alongside its wildlife.
