Great stretch of road, I know I am nearly at Bristol, or just getting started. Either way I cannot help but stop and enjoy the view, just stunning.

Access to the rest of the lake is limited. This is the only part with a trail beside.

Beautiful scenery and smooth enough road surface

At 325m high this is the highest point in the Mendips. It's a great summit with an ancient tumuli and trig point at the top. The ridge line trail stretching to the west from the summit offers wonderful fast running with awesome views in all directions. You can link the summit on a run from Cheddar, Burrington Combe or one of the local towns or villages.

I tried to cross this section on my bike, but it was totally overgrown, impossible (aug 2022)

The well-marked trail follows the bottom of the valley which has had a connection with lead mining since pre-Roman times, and along the way you can take a look inside the two small caves. As you walk through the reserve you will see a series of dams and levels, a reminder of the lead mining that used to take place.

Beautiful lake in The Mendips AONB. There’s usually an ice cream van parked up in the lay-by during peak times.

Great views in every direction. A real wild and rugged feeling up here. Great for hiking/cycling/horse riding. Recommended!

Best visited in the summer for stunning views over to Wales, Somerset and the Quantocks

It's the highest point on the Mendips! 330m or thereabouts. Where I started Mountainbiking way back in 1986.
