The Gergeti Trinity Church, (Georgian გერგეტის სამება; Gergetis Sameba) is a Georgian Orthodox church complex in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, Qazbegi Municipality. The complex consists of a 14th-century domed church and bell tower, as well as a council building (Georgian საბჭეო), which was added to the southern wall of the main church in the 15th century.[1] The church has a rectangular floor plan. Its dome rests on the two western free-standing columns and the walls of the eastern apse. The facade and dome of the church are decorated with Georgian ornaments. The ornaments are also on the walls of the bell tower. The Gergeti Sameba Church was a main church of the historical province of Chevi. The name "Gergeti" (Georgian გერგეტი) comes from the disappeared Georgian village of Gergeti on the right bank of the Tergi River opposite the center of the region, the city of Stepantsminda. The Gergeti Trinity Church (2200m) has played an important role in the history of the Georgian Church and is today an important place of pilgrimage. The view over the valley of Stepantsminda and to Prometheus Mount Kazbek (5047m) is magnificent.

This church is clearly a crowd pleaser, you are not the only tourist there. You wonder why the church was not just built in the village at the time, that would have made construction significantly easier, it must have something to do with seclusion and retreat :). But it is a fine example of architecture in a beautiful location. Be prepared for the clergy guarding the church as if it were the holy grail. Entering the church in shorts is a mortal sin, there are cloths ready that you have to put on.
