There is a point in the map that looks like you take a path at the bridge you make your way to the rail track however you need to go through the allotments to get back to the rail track as there is no way down to the track from or near the bridge

This footpath was closed, so I picked an alternative route and that was also closed for electric cables being laid. Was told this closure will be for weeks.

There are bike racks in the car park outside if you're popping in. There are a few outdoor picnic tables so you can keep an eye on your bike.

Cafe is open 10.00-3.00, closed Sun. There's sometimes a function going on but the cafe is usually open even so.

If there's just one or two of you there's space to prop your bikes out front. Wide range of light lunch options as well as cakes.

Striking position on a prominent rise above the valley - you can see St Mary's Church in the distance on the far side.

The interior of this church looks rather modern, but St Peter has a lot of history on offer. Unusually the plain, low parapet on this tower has twelve sides to it! The round tower has been built with very clear courses of flints in its lower section, (perhaps 11th century), then a tall section of smaller flints, and the upper section with the belfry made of random flints. This top stage was probably rebuilt in the 15th century. Below the south-east nave window appears to be an early flint quoin, which perhaps marks the extent of the first 11th century church here. The whole church is supported by hefty buttresses, mostly made of red brick. The chancel dates from the 14th century, with curvilinear tracery in the east window, though this was replaced in the 19th century. This pub has a strong reputation for curries and pizza but it’s history is even more intriguing. No one seems to know for sure how old it is, but it most likely dates back to the 16th century. A listed building, the Old Kings Head has a long history as a pub, originally part of a farm with 69 acres. Judging by old photographs, the road may now be modernised and the buildings possess new licks of paint, but looking along the street out of the village from the Old King’s Head, Brockdish seems to have hardly changed in generations.

The Tas valley around Shotesham and Stoke holy cross is pleasant cycling. Good walks around the area too. I often go this way then on to the pretty village of Brooke, then the small town of Loddon, after that I’m touring the Norfolk Broads. It’s a nice route and avoids main roads.
