Founded in 1107 by William d'Aubigny, the butler to King Henry I, Wymondham Abbey was once a thriving monastery. However, it was closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, with the abbey officially surrendered to the crown in 1538. Today, the building serves as an Anglican parish church.

Has that curious thing of being impressively intact at one end but partially ruined at the other. Very grand for a parish church!

Just a signal box and a level crossing over the single track line. Not a busy line so the crossing is rarely closed!

Perfect spot for an iced coffee and piece of cake. Nice shaded seating areas.

Rode in early April - pretty difficult going, walked most of it, and felt like the bike came out twice the weight due to the amount of sludge it picked up. Pretty churned up by vehicles.

A long section of single track alongside the Caistor St Edmunds Quarry. There is a nice view of the quarry and the surrounding countryside.

Wymondham Abbey is the southern terminus of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Heritage line. There aren't any facilities here. The signal box at the junction with the Breckland line is about 1km down the line to the South.
