Beautiful place to visit

„Today the Salt Line runs through farmland and woodlands, with streams, pools and rough grassland. Wild primroses brighten up the steep cutting at Roughwood Hollow while later in the year the delicate flowers of scabious and harebell can be seen on the banks. Areas of willow and hazel are coppiced regularly. This is an ancient woodland practice in which trees are cut every few years to produce timber that would have been traditionally used for thatching spars, barrel hoops, hurdles and baskets. Sheltered glades are created where flower and insects thrive, until the trees re-grow and the process begins again. Some areas are managed as wild flower meadows while others are left fairly wild and just cut back enough to keep the path clear. Look out for Bullfinches and Yellowhammers that feed on buds, berries and seeds along the Salt Line.“ Quelle: https://visitcheshire.com/trails/the-salt-line

The most southerly of the change bridges, this one separates the horse path from the roadway - the two are at slightly different levels. Just beyond the bridge is Congleton wharf with good mooring against the towing path.

Great bridleway, some parts are very overgrown and muddy but I still think its worth the trip

From English Heritage : “These two massive Saxon stone crosses dominate the cobbled market square of Sandbach. They are elaborately carved with animals and Biblical scenes including the Nativity of Christ and the Crucifixion, and probably date from the 9th century. They were originally painted as well as carved, and they are among the finest surviving examples of Anglo-Saxon high crosses.”

The plaque says “This is part of the ninth-century cross that was erected in 1578 to mark a charter granting Sandbach a weekly market. This piece survived Protestant extremists' attempts to destroy it and helped inspire the restoration of the crosses in 1810.”

Little Moreton Hall is an exquisite Tudor manor house nestled within the Cheshire countryside, just off the South Cheshire Way. This magnificent timber-framed structure, dating back to the 16th century, is renowned for its distinctive black-and-white façade and its charmingly crooked appearance.

Little Moreton Hall, also known as Old Moreton Hall,[a] is a moated half-timbered manor house 4.5 miles (7.2 km) southwest of Congleton in Cheshire, England.[2] The earliest parts of the house were built for the prosperous Cheshire landowner William Moreton in about 1504–08, and the remainder was constructed in stages by successive generations of the family until about 1610. The building is highly irregular, with three asymmetrical ranges forming a small, rectangular cobbled courtyard. A National Trust guidebook describes Little Moreton Hall as being "lifted straight from a fairy story, a gingerbread house".[3] The house's top-heavy appearance, "like a stranded Noah's Ark", is due to the Long Gallery that runs the length of the south range's upper floor.

Built around 1504 by William Moreton, Little Moreton Hall is a stunning Tudor house that looks like its straight from the pages of a fairytale. The house belonged to the Moreton family until 1938 when it was gifted to the National Trust. At its largest in the 16th century, the estate owned 1360 acres of land including a corn mill, gardens and iron bloomery. Today, you can visit the beautiful house and its gardens. Moreton Hall has irregular opening hours so check their website before visiting. Tickets for adults cost £12. I absolutely love this place, it's so full of character. A top tip is that as this building isn't heated & it's quite draughty too, so make sure you wear warm clothing in Spring & autumn (as well as winter!)
