Ilse's forest nature trail is a very special experience. In the refuge you will find everything you need to know on numerous information boards. The forest nature trail is an official cycle route and is easy to cycle on. On hot summer days it is pleasantly cool in the shade of the trees.

In the Sachsenhagen collective municipality, there are numerous stork nests in the individual municipalities. In recent years, the number has increased from the original three nests in Auhagen and Hagenburg to around 15 nests in all parts of the municipality. The storks return to their nests between February and March and start breeding in April. At the end of August, the storks fly to the warm south to overwinter. The clattering of the storks serves to greet each other and keep enemies away from the nest. The oldest stork nests are those on the street "Vor den Toren" in Auhagen.
