In earlier times, Senftenau Castle was also run as a castle. It is unknown when exactly the complex was built, but it is suspected to have been in the 12th or 13th century. A pond remains of the water that transformed the castle into a moated castle. The protective water was therefore not Lake Constance, which is far too far away here in the Lindau district of Aeschach, but an artificially created body of water. This was by no means unusual back then. Just think of the classic castle moat. The pond has remained to this day, while the former castle has undergone much change. Senftenau was first mentioned in a document in 1344. A mill stood next to the castle, but the various noble owners used the property primarily as a summer residence. In 1525, during the Peasants' War, Senftenau Castle passed to the Humpis family, a prominent and extremely wealthy patrician family from nearby Ravensburg.

It is a continuous and wide cycle path that runs along the Lake Constance Cycle Path and covers several streets in the Lindau city area (including Eichwaldstraße, Felix-Wankel-Straße, and Fraunhoferstraße). The cycle path offers, among other things, beautiful views of Lake Constance and the island of Lindau. The cycle path is partially lined with trees, providing pleasant shade and making cycling very pleasant even on sunny days.
