The cobblestones are horrible to ride on a bike. I absolutely cannot understand why this is seriously being recommended as a cycling highlight.

Warin was first mentioned in documents in 1178. In 1229, the Bishop of Schwerin began building a "summer residence," and in 1248, the Bishop's Castle was recorded as being under construction. The Bishop's Castle was demolished in 1839, and the old church no longer exists. The current church is a completely new building from 1878, built on a cruciform ground plan.

In addition to providing a place to catch your breath, it also serves a special purpose: By sitting on this bench, those waiting signal that they are hoping for a spontaneous, free ride in a car to a specific destination—in our case, primarily to Warin.

Sternberg was founded by Prince Pribislav in 1248/50, granted Parchim town charter, and became the seat of the territorial rulers in 1256, especially valued by Henry the (Mecklenburgian!) Lion. Typical of many towns founded at that time is the checkerboard layout of the streets, with the market square at its center, the town hall, and the church. The church is dedicated to Mary and Nicholas. It is a five-bay hall church with a straight choir and tower on a square floor plan.
