9월 15, 2024, Platz mit Madonna
Only at first glance does the statue appear to be of the Virgin Mary. Only the attentive observer will notice that the basket in one hand is filled with flowers (roses are obviously depicted) while the other hand holds a small loaf of bread. So this is obviously not the Madonna, but Elisabeth of Thuringia.

The parish church in the village of Waldorf - located in the hinterland of Bad Breisig - has been entrusted to the care of Saint Remaclus. With him we go far back in the history of Christianity, to the 7th century. The memorial day of Saint Remaclus of Stablo in the calendar of saints is September 3rd.

<< Bausenberg in the Brohltal >> "Behind the motorway bridge, the Bausenberg rises above the Brohltal near Niederzissen. The lava flow covered by forest is clearly visible on its right flank. Very few drivers on the A 61 motorway are aware that between the bridge over the Brohltal near Niederzissen and the bridge over the Vinxtbachtal near Waldorf they are driving through a cooled lava flow, although its dark walls are clearly visible on both sides of the road. The Bausenberg near Niederzissen was formed around 200,000 years ago by slag that did not cool quickly enough after being ejected and "welded" to the Devonian bedrock. Flowing lava was able to escape through a side opening, which is why no cone was formed, but the crater rim made of welding slag (also known as a horseshoe crater because of its shape), which is still clearly visible today. The lava flowed into the valley in a northeasterly direction of the Vinxtbach to today's Gönnersdorf." https://www.osteifel-aktiv.de/41527/66485.html

Oh yes... Mr. "Waldorf"... 🧐 Well, in addition to this town in Rhineland Palatinate, the name also stands for a grumpy, always grumbling old Muppet who shares the box to the left of the stage in the Muppet Theater with his colleague Statler. Both enjoy complaining about every possible part of the Muppet show. They usually have the last word. https://muppet.fandom.com/de/wiki/Waldorf_und_Statler

"Waldorf is a community of around 850 inhabitants and belongs to the Bad Breisig collective municipality. The town is idyllically situated in the picturesque Vinxtbach valley. An outstanding feature of Waldorf are the old, lovingly restored half-timbered houses. In 1994, Waldorf was awarded the gold medal by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Commission in the competition "Our village should become more beautiful" and in 1995 the silver medal. In 1996, the community celebrated its 1350th anniversary. The oldest document concerning Waldorf, dated June 1, 960, indicates a donation by the Merovingian King Sigibert III (* 633 + 656) to the Abbey of St. Martin before Metz, which he founded. In 1033, Waldorf came to the Imperial Abbey of Stavelot (Belgium) through an exchange from St. Martin before Metz. Since then, Bishop St. Remaclus has been the patron saint of our Church. Because of the great distance from Stavelot, Waldorf was administered by the lords of Olbrück Castle. In 1780, Stavelot Abbey sold its Waldorf property to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Heribert in Cologne-Deutz. The Vinxtbach, which flows through the town, was the border between the provinces of Upper Germany and Lower Germany in Roman times. During this time, one only had to cross the stream to avoid punishment. In the 16th century, and most recently on December 23, 1824, the town was hit by a fire. When the village was rebuilt after the last fire, today's attractive main street was built. Timeline: (650) Waldorf existed as a royal Merovingian fiscal town and is probably mentioned in the will of Sigibert III. donated to the Abbey of St. Martin near Metz 960 First documented information about Waldorf in the possession of the Abbey of St. Martin near Metz. The name of the place is not explicitly mentioned in the document, however. First mention of the church (ecclesia) (1089) Record of a ring exchange in 1033 between the abbeys of St. Martin/Metz, St. Remaklus/Stablo - Malmédy and St. Maximin/Trier, in which Waldorf came to Stablo 1130/31 the Stablo Abbey received income from Waldorf amounting to 9 pounds 1301 the parish of Waldorf is mentioned for the first time (1308) Waldorf is mentioned in the Liber Valoris, the tithe list of the Archdiocese of Cologne https://www.bad-breisig.de/gemeinden/waldorf/geschichte/

https://www.eifelleiter.de/etappen/etappe-1-rheinblick "The EIFELLEITER starts on the Rhine promenade in Bad Breisig and then leads the ladder hikers out of the spa park past the Roman thermal baths into the silence of nature. It is worth looking back over your shoulder, where incredible views of the Rhine Valley are offered. Shortly after the ascent, you walk through a Celtic hilltop settlement. There are great views of Arenfels Castle, Rheineck Castle and in the south you can also see the ruins of Hammerstein Castle. The path continues in the direction of Mönchsheide, which got its name from the management of monks from the Marienstatt monastery in the Westerwald. The ladder then leads through the characteristic landscape of the Breisiger Ländchen, through a game reserve to the heights. Waldorf with its picturesque church soon appears in view. After crossing meadows, fields and idyllic forest areas, the geology adventure begins at the end of the first stage, a dance on the Bausenberg, Germany's best-preserved horseshoe crater and home to rare plants and animals. A fascinating conclusion to the first section of the Eifel Ladder that makes you want more."
