The information panel explains how the lake got its name: Erik Husom (1817-1892), after whom this mountain lake was named, was a tenant farmer on the Kittilstadhusom farm. This farm is located in a low, sunny spot in the valley, where crops often withered and were destroyed due to severe drought. Therefore, Husom dug a ditch from the lake down to the farm. This measure was unsuccessful, however, as there was insufficient water. The water evaporated and seeped away before reaching the farm.

The information panel explains: As you can see, the water flows almost horizontally. In order to precisely level the bed of the ditch, a device like the one shown in the illustration was used in earlier times. With the help of this simple instrument, the ditch could be dug almost horizontally through the terrain. A well-known specialist in the field of hydraulic engineering was Peder Pedersen Dagsgardsoygard (1782-1846).

This is a charming lodge set by the rushing Torda river. From here, you can set out on a fantastic loop taking in the Stonebridge, a wedged boulder that acts as a bridge across the Store Føysa.
