Sottjønnin is a mountain lake located at an altitude of 1,475 metres. It is situated on the MASSIV trail, between the Nørdstedalseter and Sota Sæter huts. It is one of many lakes that enhance the region's landscape.

Glacier tongues in all directions and the rushing stream in the valley – you just have to take it all in. It's a good idea to combine the tour with the Tuftebreen glacier, but the detour up the mountain is worth it, albeit considerably more challenging than the Bergsetbreen glacier. It's only 3.5 km from the parking lot, which is free and toll-free. Camping is not permitted there!

It's worth a visit and easy to reach from the nearby parking lot.

One more thing: Tolls are NOK 70 for cars and NOK 140 for RVs. At the parking lot below, there are some gravel areas suitable for overnight stays. Next to them is an outhouse. Above the parking lot is a DNT hut with toilets, showers, and water. After a hike to the glacier, an overnight stay with a view of the glacier is highly recommended!

You follow a winding summer road up from Fortun, and then—there it is: Nørdstedalseter, a friendly staffed cabin right at the top of Fortunsdalen. It’s a cozy hub between Breheimen and Jotunheimen, with around 40 beds and a real mountain hut atmosphere. In summer, you can drive right up; in winter, it’s ski tracks all the way . Inside, there’s a wood stove, electricity, showers, and meals served—breakfast, dinner, even local lamb or deer dishes if you're here in season. The trails around are stunning—think glaciers, lush valleys, and high peaks. It's the kind of place where you drop in, warm up with a hot meal, refill your water, and make plans for the next day's adventure.

This trail runs alongside the Illvatnet lake, crossing a scree slope. This makes it challenging, especially in windy and rainy weather.

The Bergsetbreen Glacier is a breathtaking offshoot of the Jostedalsbreen, nestled in a serene valley surrounded by towering cliffs and lush green slopes. A scenic hike through the peaceful Krundalen valley leads you to a stunning viewpoint.

A great starting point to start a tour. You can also park your car here for several days. There is even the option to take a shower, but it costs 75 krone.
