3월 23, 2025, Hollow Way in Neigembos
A sunken road is a road that is so deeply worn that it lies between two slopes. It is the result of centuries of use and erosion. The most beautiful sunken roads can be found especially in hilly areas with a subsoil that easily forms steep walls, such as in Haspengouw and Hageland.

Be enchanted by the Gooze & Bozik collective. With a wall of no less than 2000 m2, it is one of the largest murals in Europe. The work is a fairy tale about a boy and a girl from Halle who take a nature walk every day on the way to school. They use the paper they find on the ground to make animals that really come to life. The beautiful wall painting was made in 2021 on the back of the Pacapime paper factory. The paper comes to life, so to speak. With this work they want to make residents and visitors aware of the Zenne and demonstrate that street art can have a breathtaking effect on a place.

“The Enchanted Forest” is an impressive mural in Halle. It is located on the wall of the corrugated cardboard producer Pacapime along the Brussels-Charleroi canal. With an area of no less than 2000 square meters, it is one of the largest murals in Europe. The artwork was created by the artist collective Treepack and tells the story of several children in an enchanted forest who find paper and cardboard among the waste with which they make origami animals. They dream of a better future in which people and nature live together in harmony. To their surprise, a magical spell brings the crafted animals to life. Children from the city of Halle served as models for the figures in the artwork.

The slightly more than 70 hectare Neigembos once covered almost all of central Belgium, together with the Sonian Forest and the Hallerbos, among others. In this mixed oak and beech forest on the border between the Flemish Ardennes and the Pajottenland you will find height differences from 20 to 90 meters above sea level. A few tough slopes await you here! The deep sunken roads have a distinct microclimate and are a pleasure to walk in. Especially in spring, when the bluebells, bellflowers and wild garlic roll out their colorful carpets. (Routen.be)

The ‘Hallerbos’, also known as the blue forest, is one of the 3 extensive forest areas in the Brussels capital area. It is an ancient forest with a mix of young and older trees. The giant Sequoia trees are pretty impressive as well as the beautiful purple carpet of bluebells, which bloom around mid-April. Crossing the forests on a mix of gravel and singletrack dirt roads make up for a visit well worth it!

The Hallerbos is part of the Flemish Ecological Network, has been a Flemish nature reserve since 2021 and is European protected as a 'Natura 2000 area'. The hilly Hallerbos is a crowd favorite thanks to a beautiful purple carpet of wild hyacinths and white wood anemones, which bloom around mid-April. This creates enchanting and magical images every year. Photographers and nature lovers from far beyond our national borders come to visit this special forest. Forests with so many bluebells are unique in the world.

It is certainly worth visiting Neigembos, Berchembos and Hulsbroekbos. Despite the fact that all three are close to each other, they are still different. Beautiful views over the mountain and valley complete the hiking pleasure. Finally, there are also the picturesque desert chapel (15th century) and chapel of Bevingen (12th century)

The highest point of Ninove is located in this Neigembos at 89 meters above sea level. This playful marking is a wooden pole in the shape of a burning match that protrudes 1.5 meters above the ground next to the walking path. The word 'krasjel' is engraved in the trunk of the pole, which is Ninovan dialect for matchstick. This symbol refers to the match factories that have long been a major part of the Ninovan industry. On the flame itself, you will find a reference to the highest point.

Stunning wall mural A large fresco will cover, at the beginning of July, the facade of a cardboard producer located on the towpath between Lembeek and Halle (Flemish Brabant). With 2,000 square meters of surface, this mural will rank among the largest in Europe. Gooze who comes from Krasnodar and Bozik from Kazan are, indeed, two renowned names on the Russian street art scene, but also internationally. They are thus part of the Treepack collective, which was asked by the authorities of the small town of Flemish Brabant to create an extraordinary work intended to enhance the Senne valley. If the (imposed) argument of this fresco entitled "The Enchanted Forest" is somewhat corny with an obligatory touch of pedagogical ecology, its size, the quality of the design, inspired, in Bozik's case, by the techniques of the Australian aborigines , as well as the pictorial narrative sequence cut the breath of passers-by. The work will be called "The Enchanted Forest" and will tell the story of a boy and a girl from Hal who, walking along the Senne, see new rubbish every day. The young girl will use bits of waste to create birds and, the following days, more and more animals will appear while the shores will be much cleaner. The objective of the collective is to use this fresco to make people aware of the beauty of the neighborhood that borders this river and to show that street art has its place in the public space.

THE BIGGEST MURAL IN BELGIUM CAN BE FIND IN HALLE The back of the Pacapime building in Halle, a wall of no less than 2000 m2, received a new coat of paint in the form of a beautiful mural. Commissioned by the city of Halle, we created a monumental design for this gigantic building on the Zinderende Zenne. The theme and title of the artwork will be 'The Enchanted Forest'. 'The Enchantment' tells the story of a boy and girl from Halle. Every day they walk to school through the beautiful nature along the Zenne, but every day they see some new litter. One day the girl took a piece of paper and folded it into a little bird she saw drinking earlier on the banks. It wasn't long before the boy said, "I want to make that too!" The following days it suddenly became a lot cleaner on the waterfront, and there were suddenly many more animals. The mission of the artwork goes even further. The company wall and surroundings are being upgraded and it creates a green buffer by integrating plants, flowers and trees. It should make residents and visitors aware of the Senne, show that street art can represent a great aesthetic intervention in public space and seek a connection between and with the inhabitants of Halle. The artwork is part of the project of the city of Halle, called Zinderende Zenne, to improve, brighten up and give the Senne valley a unique image. The graffiti artwork on the 2,000 square meter wall by the corrugated board manufacturer Pacapime will become one of the biggest eye-catchers in the Zenne Park. The Zennepark strives for a nice cohesion across the municipal boundaries between existing and planned projects in the project area. The aim is to develop an elongated park with the Zenne as a structuring, blue-green carrier, which should provide a new Halse identity and which can contribute to the upgrading of the quality of life in the city. We start this walk at the vast Molenvijver and on the right we see the beautifully restored old mill house and mill shed. The old water mill has unfortunately disappeared. The Zevenbronn nature reserve owes its name to the string of picturesque ponds and sources in the small valley on the border of 3 municipalities (Sint-Genesius-Rode, Dwerp & Braine-l'Alleud), the Flemish and Walloon Regions and the language border. The ponds and springs once belonged to the priory of the canons of St. Augustine, whose construction started at the end of 1300, then still located in the Sonian Forest. The ponds were protected as landscape in 1947 and are now the property of the Flemish Community. We walk down a narrow path along the seven-spring stream for a while and see the slopes of the valley on the left and right. If we go up the slope to the left further on, we get to see a wonderful panorama. Fields, forests and sunken roads alternate. A wider path takes us to another pond. And another slope at yet another stream and along a footpath back to the large Molenvijver. In the spring it can be swampy so sturdy, suitable walking shoes are necessary.
