There are extensive forests around Averbode Abbey, interspersed with fens, swamps, heaths and grasslands, now managed by Natuurpunt. Early hikers may see a great egret fishing in the reed pond here.

Walking bridge over the beautiful Weefbergven, which you can already see from the vast land dune at the foot of the Weefberg (almost at the end when you walk from Averbode). On one side of it there is a bench with an information board just before the start of the climb.

Averbode Bos & Heide is located around the abbey of Averbode. It is the transition from the Kempen to the Hageland. Extensive forests alternate with fens, marshes, heathland and heathland with scanty grasslands. Beautiful nature to take a walk.
