The building has been beautifully renovated into a residence but retains many aspects of its past as a station. The old nameplates are clearly visible. Across the cycle path that runs along the former route, there's a picnic table and an information board about the Getelinie (and "the Great War"), titled and themed "Skirmishes at the Station."

This beautiful location lies near the Begijnenbeek stream (and the present-day Webbekoms Broek) and was founded in 1253 by Arnold IV, Lord of Diest. Its location just outside the then-city center is no coincidence: the lower-lying marshy lands were cheaper to settle in than the city itself. (de Merode Landscape Park)

But where does this name actually come from? The tower's name is said to be based on the legend of Rosita, the daughter of the lord of the manor, Don Juan. She refused to marry her father's chosen man. Instead, she fell in love with a common soldier. Her father disapproved and imprisoned her in the tower as punishment. Only when she changed her mind would Don Juan release his daughter. That didn't happen, and months later, he threw Rosita into the Demer River. In the Middle Ages, Zichem lay on the dividing line between the Duchy of Brabant and the County of Loon. Such a crucial location was best protected. Therefore, Reinier II of Schoonvorst commissioned the construction of a border tower, the Maiden's Tower. The structure appeared on the banks of the Demer River in the 14th century.
