파테르 다미아안의 2미터 높이 나무 조각상은 2013년 8월 22일 다미아안 다리 서쪽에 설치되었으며 하흐트 출신의 리제트 크레센스가 기증했습니다. 이 조각상은 볼프스동크 출신의 예술가가 제작했습니다. 출처: https://www.tremelo.be/product/2172/15-standbeeld-damiaan-damiaanbrug 자전거 및 보행자 다리 자체는 2012년에 사용되기 시작했으며 닌데의 다미아안 박물관 근처(도로 끝)에 있습니다. 다리로 연결된 두 개의 데일 제방은 파테르 다미아안다이크(닌데 쪽)와 시프스트레커스다이크(하흐트 쪽)라고 불립니다. 다리 근처에서 그로테 라크가 데일 강으로 흘러 들어갑니다. 그곳은 아르쇼트 근처에서 데머 강에서 갈라져 나온 강으로, 라크라고도 알려져 있으며 이전에는 미츠호벤세 라크라고 불렸습니다.

A beautifully paved towpath allows you to fully enjoy the meandering Demer River. Be aware that it can get quite busy here at times. Courtesy is therefore essential. Enjoy together, each at your own pace.

This bridge is one of the meeting places along the Demer River marked by a work of art. In this case, beautifully crafted bridge railings and a toll house made of Corten steel were erected on the concrete girder, built in 1986. The carved patterns illuminate at night. The toll house refers to the toll that passersby had to pay to cross the bridge between 1860 and 1900. This bridge was built in 1860 after a meander in the Demer River was straightened. The original wooden bridge was located a little further upstream. Not far from the bridge, on September 2, 1914, the lifeless body of Father Dergent was found. Father Dergent had been captured by German soldiers a few days earlier while transporting wounded residents of Gelrode by horse and cart to the hospital in Aarschot. In Aarschot, he was imprisoned, mocked, and tortured. He was cowardly shot, and his body was thrown into the Demer River. The body was buried in the dike and could only be exhumed and buried in the Gelrode cemetery on September 14th. Source: Jan Rymenams
