물 위를 지나는 자전거 도로는 212미터 길이와 3미터 폭의 콘크리트 길을 따라 자전거 이용자들을 안내하며, 양쪽에는 눈높이의 물이 흐릅니다. 백조와 다른 물새들이 강둑을 따라 헤엄치며 자전거 이용자들을 호기심 어린 눈으로 바라봅니다. 개장 이후 이 독특한 자전거 도로에 대한 관심은 엄청났습니다. 평균적으로 하루 800명의 방문객이 림뷔르흐 자전거 네트워크의 잊을 수 없는 이 구간을 탐험하며, 토요일과 일요일에 절정을 이루고 어떤 날에는 5,000명까지 자전거 이용객이 방문합니다.

De Wijers is a unique nature reserve with approximately 700 hectares of water and over 1,000 ponds. The once artificial fishponds have developed into a valuable wetland with impressive biodiversity – home to numerous bird species, amphibians, and dragonflies. The area is part of the European Natura 2000 network.

In De Wijers you can walk quietly on good paths between all kinds of water features. De Wijers is therefore called the land of 1001 ponds.

The nature development project ‘Vijvercomplex Bokrijk-Kiewit’ aims to restore the former fish breeding ponds for the benefit of nature and tries to develop the area as a large sponge, a climate buffer. The cycle path leads you straight through a pond, all the way from one bank to the other. In the middle, the water is at eye level on either side. You feel, see and smell the water. A beautiful and unique view of this piece of nature. When you watch from a distance, it is funny to see all those heads passing by on the surface of the water. Even though it is called 'Cycling through the Water' in Bokrijk, the path is accessible to walkers and joggers. (VisitLimburg)

The observation tower was designed by the Ghent-based architectural firm Architecten Delobelle. It is situated in the wooded edge of one of the ponds and offers a view of the hundreds of ponds in the surrounding area. To minimize the impact on the natural environment, they used natural materials, colors, and hues that integrate seamlessly with the green surroundings. In the nature reserve, the observation tower constantly appears in a changing form, with the galvanized steel, wood, and thatch blending seamlessly into the surroundings. The fish, the icon of the Wijers, served as inspiration for the tower. The 15-meter-high lookout tower in the Bolderdal pond area is partly in the water and offers a view over the hundreds of ponds. From the 15 meter high tower you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the ponds. If you don't dare go up, you can enjoy the panorama through the periscope.
