The Ottergem Bridge is a fan-shaped cable-stayed bridge over the Ringvaart that connects the inner and outer ring of the important R4 connecting road around the Belgian city of Ghent and, among other things, the Ghelamco Arena. The bridge is named after the Hof van Ottergem, a centuries-old farm that was located approximately on the site of the current bridge. The farm was demolished during the construction of the Ringvaart. The bridge has two one-way lanes, a two-way cycle path and a pedestrian path. A 47.3 m high pylon carries the 7 m wide road surface over a total span of 135 meters. The bridge is beautifully lit in the dark.

The site of this statue, the Balei, is the highest point in Sint-Lievenshoutem (83m above sea level). The statue refers to the 'Ouden Heirweg' (Old Heir Road), the Roman road between Boulogne, Asse, and Tongeren, which ran past here. From 1596 onwards, the local gallows stood on the Balei.
