Beautiful, quiet spot along the banks of the Scheldt. Well-maintained

The tower itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, it's no longer accessible. Vandals make a sport of unscrewing railing screws, so it's dangerous if you don't know how to do it.

Fort Haasdonk was built from 1908 to 1913. It played no major role in the two world wars. After 1918, the fort was mainly used as a warehouse. The building is in a fairly poor condition but has been recognized as a protected natural monument since 2002. The fort is privately owned and not accessible. The walking path around the fort moat is accessible. Cyclists can discover the fort together with Fort Steendorp, Fort Zwijndrecht, Fort Kruibeke and Fort 8 Hoboken via the route 'Forts and castles in the Waasland' from the brochure "Retake the Forts". The Verbeke Foundation: what is it actually? The Verbeke Foundation is the brainchild of art collectors Geert Verbeke and Carla Verbeke-Lens. This private art site houses a magnificent collection of modern and contemporary works of art that are spread out in the landscape. As if a splinter bomb of creativity has exploded here and the shards have emerged as masterfully idiosyncratic art. In short: you get lost in 12 hectares of nature reserve and discover a total of 20,000 square meters of covered pavilions. This sanctuary is an inimitable place, where not only the works of established artists are shown to their best advantage. A promising generation of young wolves is also given every opportunity here. The Saleghem creek area is more than the sum of its parts. After all, the nature reserve consists of the Grote Saleghemgeul on one side, and the Sint-Jakobsgat and the Kieldrechtste Watergang on the other. This triumvirate of water creeks then ends in the Grote Geule in Kieldrecht. Each one is beautiful on its own, yes. But together they are magical.
