The mill, a colossus weighing over thirty tons, was moved to this location in 1954 and was then designated a protected monument. Previously, the mill stood on Kerkenbergen, along the road to Retie. (Information board on site)

The F15 cycle highway (Antwerp-Turnhout) follows the towpath along the Dessel-Schoten canal and takes you past war bunkers at regular intervals.

Herman Vanspringel (Ranst, 14 August 1943 – Bouwel, 25 August 2022) was a Belgian professional cyclist from 1965 to 1981. His nickname was Monsieur Bordeaux-Paris. Fact: After his professional career, Herman cycled three times a week on the Netedijk between Bouwel and Duffel. He also regularly cycled with Eddy Merckx. He died at home at the age of 79 after a long illness.

Le Paige Castle dates from 1892 and incorporates elements from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods. The interior features hints of Art Nouveau. The castle includes an arboretum. The complex is called Domaine Le Paige, a reference to the Le Paige family who long owned it.
