The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas is located in the town of Neuerburg in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. It was originally built in the 15th century and dedicated to St. Nicholas. The church is now protected as a cultural monument.

According to tradition, a small prayer house was said to have stood here as early as 1619. Near the chapel there was a hermitage on a small hill, which was inhabited by several hermits until 1783. The hatchet tower is located on a rock east of Neuerburg's market square. It was built in the 16th century and is an outbuilding of the old city fortifications. Until the end of the 18th century it served as the apartment of the city's fire watchman. You can reach the Beilsturm from the market square or from Beilsbachstrasse. From the top, newly designed viewing platform of the tower you have a wonderful view over the medieval town center of Neuerburg.

We were able to spend our lunch break here today on our way to Sinspelt. We had a very nice and entertaining conversation with Kurt Mayer and there was also a delicious cold drink on top. Here we were able to experience real hospitality today.
