The origins of the Buchenmühle probably date back to the 16th century. Milling operations using water from the Taft River were discontinued in the early 1950s for economic reasons.

From every angle, the Philippsthal potash mine's spoil heap is a fantastic photo opportunity. Depending on the depth and layer from which the spoil reaches the heap, it displays different colors. The eastern edge of the heap lies directly on the former border with the GDR. A former border security watchtower can also be seen there.

There is a small, free local history museum in the city gate. It offers a lot of information about the historical site and shows an old guard room with a prison. In the museum you can also learn how the tower was used over time before it became a local history museum.

Here, a farmstead was completely divided when the border was drawn. One part with the main house belonged to one side, the other part with the order. The house suddenly belonged to the GDR side and was completely demolished. The border ran right through the middle of the farmstead.

The new town hall of Geisa was built after the first town fire in 1858 from 1859 to 1861 on the site of the old town hall by a master builder from Weimar. A very beautiful, old city gate that provides access to a wonderful city with an equally wonderful old town. Pedestrians also have to wait at the gate until they get the green light.
