You can see this transmission tower from far away. It is 305 metres high, making it the highest construction in Belgium. The tower was built in 1973 to replace the Aalter television tower that was built in 1958. In the past, the tower carried the antennas for the VRT television broadcasts. In the night of 2 to 3 November 2008, broadcasting analogue TV via the ether was definitively stopped. From then on, TV was only broadcast digitally via DVB-T in higher quality. On Saturday 1 December 2018, television broadcasting via DVB-T also stopped. The tower is still in use for the VRT radio broadcasts (Radio 1, Radio 2, Klara, MNM, Studio Brussel) and the broadcasts of a number of other commercial radio stations (Q-Music, JOE fm, Topradio, Nostalgie, VBRO). There are also a number of mobile communication antennas (Telenet, Orange and Proximus) attached to the mast. For the privatisation of the VRT network, of which this transmitter is part, the VRT chose the Norwegian company Norkring in December 2008. On 21 March 2016, a new transmitter for radio via DAB+ was put into service in Egem. This latest generation radio transmitter sends 15 stations digitally into the ether: Family Radio, Nostalgie, Radio Maria, TOPradio, Roxx, VBRO, VBRO Evergreen, JOE fm, Joe 70's, Joe 80's, Qmusic, Q non-stop and BBC World Service via mux 11A. On 1 March 2019, the national muxes 5A and 5D were put into service. Stadsradio Vlaanderen and Tomorrowland OWR were added to mux 5A. Source: Wikipedia

Pilgrimage site whose history dates back to 1760 or even earlier. Almost a century earlier, there was already talk of the "Vernagelt Strate", now "Vernagelingsstraat", of which the Leenbosstraat forms an extension to the south of the Veldkruis. That street name refers to the Veldkruis, which has traditionally been visited as a place of pilgrimage to pray against the "nail holes". People offer nails there to heal ulcers or leg wounds. Due to a spring storm in 2008, the Veldkruis was blown over and severely damaged. A completely new cross was erected by the Provincial Technical Service. The current flanking chapels are also 20th century. In the left chapel, among other things, statues of the Sacred Heart, Our Lady with Child. In the right chapel, a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and above the doorway a niche in which nails are offered. Source: https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/207864

Absolutely beautiful area of 44 hectares of forest, with three ponds with remarkable names, of which the largest, the castle pond, is called "'t Zeetje". In the second pond, Ardoyevijver, there is a headland/peninsula with a bench where the view is beautiful and it is quiet to sit. The third pond and surroundings are managed as a nature reserve. On the edge of it there is a birdwatching hut.

The Veldkruis in Provincial domain 't Veld has been a popular place of pilgrimage since 1755. People came to ask for healing of “nail holes” (sores and leg wounds). Nails were sacrificed, traces of which can still be found today in a niche above one of the two flanking chapels. Both the cross and the chapels have been renovated, partly after a spring storm in 2008.

The transmission tower of Egem is a 305 meter high transmission tower along the Vliegveldweg in Egem, part of the municipality of Pittem (West Flanders). It is one of the tallest structures in Belgium. [source?] The tower was built in 1973 to replace the television mast of Aalter erected in 1958.
