Vigevano's historic charm is further enhanced by the imposing Visconti Sforzesco Castle, whose over 70,000 square meters make it one of the largest fortified castles in Europe. Its gardens and the diverse uses of its rooms, including an international shoe museum, are silent witnesses to a glorious past.

The trail runs in a very elevated position, on the edge of a plain that surrounds the outer part of a large bend of the Ticino River. The plain ends abruptly in a steep overhanging cliff caused by the erosion of the water at its base. The trail runs through greenery and flowers, in a panoramic position from which you can admire the branch from which it comes, and the one from which the water flows into the bend that flows at your feet. The large gravelly esplanades on the opposite bank inside the bend of the river are also veiled.

Madonna della Bozzola, sanctuary on the Via Francigena

It would be a spectacular route but unfortunately lately, given the adverse weather, it is practically impassable along certain sections, and above all both the bridges and the fords are missing, which are now impassable. A big shame!

The Santuario Madonna della Bozzola is a diocesan reference point for pastoral care, located in Tromello, province of Pavia, region of Lombardy. This sanctuary, dedicated to Our Lady of the Bozzola, is a place of encounter, reflection and spiritual growth. The shrine has its origins in a miraculous apparition of Maria Benedetta in 1465. Maria invited the faithful to build a chapel and later a church in her honor on this site. The church, founded at the beginning of the 16th century, has a cotto facade with frescoes in the lunettes of the portals. Inside is a painting of Our Lady of the Bozzola. The shrine was restored in 1983.

The Church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Carmel and to Saint Joseph. It is a beautiful brick church built around 1730 and overlooking a long tree-lined square. Next to the church you can visit the Madonna's cave.

Path that leads to the end of one of the bends of the Ticino, which once hosted a military area. Here nature has regained the upper hand and it is not difficult to encounter even rare fauna species, thanks to the rich and luxuriant vegetation of white willows and black poplars.
