A charming "workers' village," a product of the industrial revolution between the late 19th and early 20th centuries: a long, low building housing about twenty identical terraced houses on each side, intended to house the families of workers from the nearby historic jute factory. Beginning in the late 19th century, Piazzola sul Brenta underwent a profound social and urban transformation, spearheaded by the enlightened entrepreneur Paolo Camerini, who aimed to transform the town from a primarily agricultural center to an industrial hub: an "ideal city" of work in which production needs and attention to the quality of life of its citizens and workers would go hand in hand. The Muson dei Sassi, a canal built in the 17th century to divert the waters of the Musone river into the Brenta, flows here, just outside Padua. The view from this point is truly suggestive.
