Sant'Ermo is a locality in the heart of the Pisan hills, characterized by gentle slopes colored yellow, red, brown or black, according to the alternation of the vegetation. Shortly before reaching the top of the hill we find the small Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Monti, the reconstruction of a 16th century building destroyed by an earthquake in the mid-19th century. The sanctuary is dedicated to the "Virgin of the Seven Sorrows". The exterior has a square, white facade decorated with sober architectural motifs; the interior (open only for weddings, baptisms and special holidays) cannot be visited, but from the small gate that closes it you can glimpse an elongated rectangular plan room with two rows of benches and at the back the altar, on which it rests the icon of the Madonna dei Sette Dolori (depicted with seven swords on her chest), patroness of the Pisan-Livornese hills and object of veneration by the inhabitants of the entire area. A path runs alongside the sanctuary from the back, here a large semicircular clearing surrounded by cypresses and with a large white cross, a real panoramic terrace on the Pisan mountains, the plain of Pisa, the Apuan Alps. It can be reached from the sp13 (coming from Santa Luce-Riparbella) or from the sp21 (Acciaiolo-Torretta) with a sinuous and undulating path that winds gently through the hills. Between km 16 and km 15, on the right a small sign indicates the Sanctuary which can be reached by mtb (immediate right) on an uphill dirt road, or on foot (straight and then right) among the trees on a rather steep path interspersed with rough steps

Lari is a town located in the Pisan hills, whose economy is mainly agricultural. Among the fruit production of its territory, the cherry stands out. The whole area, in fact, is famous not only for the large quantity of cherries produced (half of the whole of Tuscany), but also for their variety and renowned quality, so much so that the DOP (i.e. PDO, protected designation of origin) , was requested with the name "Ciliegia di Lari". The biodiversity and quality of the cherries of the Pisan hills is due not only to the peculiarities of the soils and the climate, but also to the knowledge and experience gained over time by the numerous agricultural producers in the wake of tradition. Every year between May and June, in the historic center of Lari there is a Cherry Festival (and local food and wine products) accompanied by cultural and folkloristic events. An opportunity not to be missed!

Lari is famous for its Castello dei Vicari, located at the top of the hill and in the center of the city. This interesting fortress was started around the year 1000 in a strategic point of the Arno valley and grew in splendor until 1400, when it began to host the Vicars, i.e. the magistrates who had the task of administering a large part of the Pisan territory on behalf of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Today, after being restored, it is open to the public and hosts conferences, meetings and exhibitions, as well as guided tours, entertainment, concerts, theater, wedding ceremonies and other initiatives for groups and school parties.
