The climb is a little longer than coming from the other side, but not quite as steep. Border crossing 🇮🇹🇨🇭 in Indemini to Alpe Neggia. Beautifully situated in the valley with lots of nature and small villages.

The view into the valley of Lake Maggiore is more than deserved after the strenuous climb ⛰️🚲👍

Chiesetta S.Michele al Monte (Porto Valtravaglia) Church of San Michele al Monte The millennial church of San Michele al Monte is located in the area of the current municipality of Porto Valtravaglia, at about 820 meters. The church of San Michele al Mt. was built to ensure that people who lived in the mountains during spring and summer could attend religious services. The small church of San Michele al Monte has a very simple structure: about 30 square meters, with a semicircular apse facing east according to ancient tradition. The apse, the oldest part of the small church, dating from the second half of the 11th century, features well-aligned rows of stones and pebbles with clear fish-hook bands. The sacristy and bell tower are believed to have been added in the 19th century. In 1965 the roof of the sacristy collapsed. In 2000 the roof was completely rebuilt and walls and foundations were restored. Discoveries followed: in 2001, important frescoes from the 11th to 14th centuries were discovered and restored. Church of Santa Maria Assunta - Domo The ancient church of Santa Maria Assunta was mainly in Romanesque style and developed along a single nave. According to the documents, it dates back to the 12th century, but has been considerably renovated over the centuries. The small window on the right wall overlooking the piazza is from the original church. In 1783 the church was renovated - as we see it today - and reopened in 1795. The church of Santa Maria Assunta has several high-quality frescoes inside. In addition to the high altar, two other altars are also painted: the one on the left wall is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary and the one on the opposite wall to Saint Anthony the Abbot. The current shapes of the two chapels that house the altars date back to the second half of the 18th century. The church also houses a precious organ, which comes from the collegiate church in Castiglione Olona. It dates back to the beginning of the 17th century and was later restored.
