The sculptor Vincenzo Vela (1820-91) designed his home in the years 1862-65 as a residence, work studio and private museum, where the original plaster casts of his monumental works could be conserved and presented. Immersed in an Italian-style garden park, the villa is among the most spectacular house-museums of the nineteenth century.
