We left Gorgonzola in the direction of the Chignolo Po Castle, one of the sumptuous country residences of Lombardy, and after about three hours we arrived at our destination... discovering that the Castle was closed... no big deal we took pictures from the outside. Its oldest part is the tower, built as a garrison on the Po and on the connecting routes between northern Europe and Italy. The Castle, built in the thirteenth century, was transformed into a princely palace in the eighteenth century, through an imaginative stylistic reworking of the building. It appears as a majestic terracotta construction, surmounted by a protruding gallery supported by stone brackets. Each window is framed in white. The most spectacular element is the central tower, square and with battlements, embellished with a small loggia. Inside you can admire the apartments in which Pope Clement XI, Napoleon Bonaparte and Francis I of Austria were hosted, as well as the sumptuous ballroom on whose ceiling the glory of the four seasons is painted. The Castle is also home to the Museum of the History of Lombard Agricultural Civilization, created with the intent of bringing together the many historical realities that have formed the foundation of the agricultural activities of the lower Po Valley and the Lombard Wine Museum. The visit route aims to admire the monumental complex of the Castle of Chignolo Po and to enhance the history of its centuries-old royal fiefdom and its position along the Via Francigena. The visits are only guided as the Castle is a private residence. Nice trip!

It's impossible to think of passing through here without visiting the town's castle. Its origins seem to date back to the 6th century but over time it underwent numerous transformations and rearrangements, resulting from the needs of the owners who followed one another over the centuries. First there was Frederick I, known as Barbarossa, who destroyed the previous castle to rebuild it. There were the Visconti-Sforzas and finally the Belgioioso family. The structure of the castle is divided into two parts: on one side the shelter, i.e. the area where daily life took place, on the other the fortress, with military functions and for this reason located high up on the hillside.

4월 5, 2024, Attraversamento del fiume Lambro
"Attraverssamento del fiume Lambro"; The Lambro is a river in the Italian region of Lombardy. The total length of the river is approximately 130 kilometers. The source of the Lambro, Menaresta is located on the flank of Monte San Primo (1685 m), the highest mountain of the Triangolo Lariano that divides Lake Como in two. The first kilometers the river flows through the Valassina, then the Lambro crosses Lake Pusiano and later flows further into the Brianza. Between Lake Pusiano and the city of Monza, the river and the surrounding area have been declared a protected area (Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro). Arriving at the conurbation of Milan, the river flows straight through Monza, and past the cities of Sesto San Giovanni and Milan. The last kilometers the Lambro flows through the flat Po Valley past the town of Melegnano and eventually flows into the Po river in Orio Litta.

The Cathedral of Lodi is the oldest sacred building in the city. Its construction was commissioned by Frederick Barbarossa and began in the year 1160 and ended a hundred years later. The composition of the facade, the use of exposed bricks and the design layout make the Lodi Cathedral one of the most famous examples of Lombard-Emilian style, more commonly known as Romanesque.

Piazza della Vittoria, known as "piazza Maggiore" until 1924, represents the heart of the city of Lodi: overlooking it, in particular, the cathedral basilica of the Virgin of the Assumption and the town hall as well as the Vistarini palace, one of the most beautiful of the city.

Beautiful castle with an ancient history. The main tower dates back to the Lombards. About 1300 years of vicissitudes. The two visits are very interesting: the medieval route and the Renaissance one. They deserve a stop. Inside there is no way to leave the bikes to visit. The two visits last approximately two hours each. If you have time I highly recommend.

The cathedral basilica of the Virgin of the Assumption, commonly known as the cathedral, is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Lodi, in Lombardy, the episcopal seat of the diocese of the same name. It is one of the largest churches in Lombardy and the oldest monument in Lodi: the first stone of the building, in fact, was symbolically placed on 3 August 1158, the same day the city was founded. In March 1970 Pope Paul VI elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica. In Romanesque style, it is one of the largest churches in the whole of Lombardy. The first phase of its construction, for which many materials from the buildings of ancient Laus Pompeia were probably used, dates back to the period between 1158 and 1163; in fact, the crypt was solemnly inaugurated with the translation of the relics of San Bassiano on 4 November 1163, in the presence of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. A second phase dates back to between 1170 and 1180, but the façade was completed only in 1284. The church replaced the ancient church of Santa Maria di Lodi Vecchio in its cathedral functions. At the beginning of the 16th century the apostolic administrator of the diocese, Claudius of Seyssel, promoted restoration and modernization works. The most visible sign was the opening of the two mullioned windows on the facade and the construction of the new rose window. Subsequently, the eighteenth-century restorations - carried out by the architect Francesco Croce - altered the original appearance of the building, which was however restored in the years 1958-1965. The church is recognized as an Italian national monument.
