The castle is ideal for a circular hike along the Oachner-Höfe circular trail. Numerous refreshment stops, including wine tastings, are available.

A lovely place to stop for a break after a hike along the Oachner Höfeweg. I can wholeheartedly recommend the delicious buckwheat cake.

Prösels Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1279. Its construction, then still known as Prösels Castle, dates back to the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle underwent a major alteration at the beginning of the 16th century, for which Leonhard von Völs was responsible. The Barons of Völs family had been the family that owned the castle the longest and thus significantly shaped its present appearance. It was chosen as the family seat of the Barons of Völs due to its strategically favorable geographical location, which also seemed ideally suited for defense purposes. Therefore, Prösels Castle was equipped with the most modern military and defensive technology of its time. At that time, it served to ward off enemies while simultaneously meeting the need for representation and comfortable living. Events that occurred at Prösels Castle at the beginning of the 16th century certainly cast a dark shadow over the castle's history. Between 1506 and 1510, the so-called witch trials were held at Prösels Castle, which was also the seat of the Fiè district court. Around 30 people were sentenced to death. A memorial at the entrance to the castle, erected by the municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar, commemorates these tragic witch burnings. The following inscription is inscribed on this memorial: "The municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar commemorates its fellow citizens who were convicted as witches and sorcerers 500 years ago. Their burning at the stake of ignorance and delusion serves as a warning to us, the next generation, and makes us vigilant against intolerance and every form of exclusion." Since then, the ravages of time have taken their toll on the walls of Prösels Castle, leaving it increasingly to decay. Thanks to the commitment of private individuals, this decay was ultimately prevented. The Kuratorium Schloss Prösels GmbH has owned the castle since 1981. The majestic Presule castle is a fortress located in South Tyrol, nestled in the Sciliar plateau, in the heart of the Dolomites. This castle is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture, whose construction dates back to the time of Maximilian I of Habsburg in 1517, as indicated above the entrance portal. However, it should be noted that the lords of Fiè, the custodians of the heritage of the bishops of Bressanone, built the fortress as far back as 1200. Access to the castle requires a fee and it often hosts cultural events. There is also a cozy café at the entrance which adds a touch of charm to the place.

The ruins of the early medieval castle are located in the middle of the forest at the foot of the Sciliar massif. The castle belonged to the poet Oswald von Wolkenstein and looks back on an eventful history. From here there are extensive views over the high plateau of Siusi and Castelrotto and the winding remains of the wall invite you to explore and linger.

Definitely run, especially with children! I would take bus 15 (free with a guest card) to Bad Ratzes and then walk comfortably down to Salegg. Very pleasant even in midsummer (partial shade), and also very entertaining thanks to the many great information cards. The terrain is undemanding, but not for strollers. Stop at Pizzeria Salegg (great pizza, not much crowd, closed between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.) and then get on the bus. Stop directly below the pizzeria.

The building was erected in the 12th century by the lords of Hauenstein and underwent successive enlargements in the 15th and 16th centuries. It was owned for a third by the fourteenth-century Tyrolean poet Oswald von Wolkenstein, who established his residence there for a few years and composed some of his Lieder. The baron Christoph von Wolkenstein bought the castle in 1551aio 1551 but with time his heirs did not care and this fell into ruin as early as the seventeenth century. of the castle were restored and some frescoes were recovered inside the chapel.

From May to October it is possible to visit the castle by participating in one of the guided tours that take place every two hours. You can sweeten the waiting time with a visit to the small café at the castle gate. A walk around the castle on the circular route and a visit to the powder tower opposite with a wonderful view of the Schlern massif is also recommended.

The Castel Latemar is located in the Karersee area in the heart of the "most beautiful mountains in the world", as the extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner affectionately calls it. More detailed information: http://www.castellatemar.it/

This is a short detour from the Oswald-Von-Wolkenstein-Weg. Hidden under a thick rock is a small area with seating (for children) and a thick book with short stories and legends from the area to read aloud.

On the Oswald-von-Wolkenstein-Weg, a few stops explain a lot about the namesake and his era of the castles here in South Tyrol. The whole thing is designed to be very playful and nice for children. Two ruins crown the path. Unfortunately we currently have bad weather here, so photos wouldn't have been worth it. The end of the path in the dark forest with its hidden (mythical) creatures was particularly “eerie” this time. Oh yes, don't forget the trip to the fairy tale book.
