Burgusio is part of the municipality of Mals with 852 inhabitants and is nestled on the mountain slope of the Malser Haide. Burgusio in South Tyrol was first mentioned in a document in 1160, the name presumably goes back to an old Roman fortification that was built to protect the "Via Claudia Augusta".
