Conegliano Castle dominates the city from its hilltop position. The first document mentioning it dates back to 1016 AD, but the structure reached its maximum extension in the fourteenth century, thanks to the influence of the Scaligeri and Carraresi rulers.

The parish was established on 1 July 1592 by Bishop Marcantonio Mocenigo, dismembering part of the territory of the parish of Costa which extended its jurisdiction all around the castle or "borgo extra muros". The original oratory dedicated to S. Rocco was replaced by the current church begun in 1630, completed in 1640 and consecrated on 13 June 1746 by Bishop L. Da Ponte. In 1641, the title of S. Domenico was added to the title of S. Rocco, perhaps because in that year a convent for a community of Dominican nuns was built next to the new church. The bell tower was erected at the same time as the church.
