Beautiful ride along two large rivers in the Province of Vicenza, the Brenta and the Astico, crossing the large forage fields to the northeast of Vicenza, crossed by a vast network of waterways and irrigation canals and dotted with numerous springs where the waters that come from the Vicenza Mountains return to the surface. Many places where you can taste the typical products of the place and many observation points of the wildlife that lives in the river areas. Ideal route for Gravel bikes and MTB but also very feasible with City bike type bicycles as long as they are equipped with off-road tires.

Among the Bassano hills, the Silàn stream rises in the hamlet of Valrovina and descends along the valley of the same name, forming here a spectacular and unexpected waterfall with jutting out and natural pools of crystalline water. The waterfall ends in an enchanting clearing, in the middle of a lush forest with impressive centuries-old chestnut trees, with enormous and twisted trunks. 'Silàn' is a Cimbrian toponym that means 'place where water flows'.

The Ponte Vecchio is the symbol of the city of Bassano del Grappa, but at the same time of resilience and rebirth. Three times destroyed and three times rebuilt, the Ponte Vecchio has retained its architecture for almost 500 years. Entirely covered in wood, with the pillars sinking into the Brenta river, it is also known by the name of Ponte degli Alpini. Considered as one of the most characteristic bridges in the Veneto and Italy. The Ponte Vecchio dates back to 1567, designed by Andrea Palladio and, in 2019, it was proclaimed a national monument. Its structure is made of wood, it is 58 meters long and 11 meters high.

Bassano del Grappa The heart and soul of the place is the Ponte Vecchio over the Brenta. On February 17, 1945, the bridge was blown up by partisans and severely damaged; the action was part of an Allied plan to cut off the Nazi fascists' communications and supply routes in the region. Today's 58 m long building was rebuilt by the Italian mountain troops - the Alpini - from 1947 to 1948 according to the plans of Andrea Palladio from 1569. Unfortunately, the bridge was damaged again during the great floods of 1966 and had to be repaired again. Text / Source: Valsugana https://www.valsugana.de/bassano-del-grappa/

Ponte Vecchio / Old Bridge Bassano del Grappa's symbol is the Ponte Vecchio (or Vecio in Veneto): a concentrate of architectural genius, romanticism, historical memory and suggestion. It is a covered wooden bridge that connects the two banks of the Brenta in the heart of the city. The current form dates from the sixteenth century. Postcard picture par excellence, ideal subject for an Instagram post, the Ponte Vecchio is not only beautiful but also very functional: thanks to its brilliant designer, the same Andrea Palladio to whom we owe the most beautiful and famous Venetian villas in the world. It was he who wanted to build the wooden bridge, convinced that the elasticity of this material could counteract the impetus of the river. Despite several damages from water and bombing, the bridge is still there, each time renovated according to Palladio's original project. The bridge is also known as Ponte degli Alpini, a name dedicated to the troops who crossed it to the front lines during World War I. Due to its strategic importance in the subsequent world war, it was blown up by the partisans and rebuilt after the end of the war. Maintenance work is still almost constant today, but that does not detract from the charm of this extraordinary work: crossing the Ponte degli Alpini is one of the best experiences in Bassano del Grappa. Take it easy, because from the bridge you can enjoy a magnificent view of the mountains and afterwards also take the time to admire them as a whole. The best places to photograph the bridge are the Brenta riverbank on the west side, the aisle in front of the castle and the terrace of Piazza Terraglio. - https://www.veneto.info/vicenza/bassano-del-grappa/ Text / source: VENETO.INFO - https://www.veneto.info/vicenza/bassano-del-grappa/ https://www.veneto.info/vicenza/bassano-del-grappa/ Ponte Vecchio - https://www.veneto.info/vicenza/bassano-del-grappa/

Ponte Vecchio (Bassano del Grappa) History The first evidence of a bridge in Bassano dates back to 1124 and 1209. This was the subject of several disputes with Vicenza between the 13th and 14th centuries. The bridge was renovated in 1450 and 1499. In 1511, the bridge was burned by French troops under Jacques de la Palice while retreating from the wars associated with the League of Cambrai. The reconstruction only took place in 1522 in such a way that the bridge had to be rebuilt as early as 1524 - this time in stone. However, this bridge had to be replaced by a wooden bridge in 1531, which fell victim to the flood in October 1567. Ponte Vecchio (Bassano del Grappa) The Ponte Vecchio, also Ponte di Bassano or Ponte degli Alpini, over the Brenta in Bassano del Grappa is a wooden bridge from the Renaissance that was built in 1569 according to plans by Andrea Palladio and was repeatedly rebuilt according to this model after it was destroyed. There were already a number of bridges at this location, which were destroyed several times. Because the bridge not only connected the settlements on both banks of the river, but also led the strategically important trade route to Vicenza across the river, over the centuries the bridges were damaged or destroyed several times not only by the Brenta, but also by human hands.
