It is worth mentioning that the castle was the residence of the Counts of Conversano for almost seven hundred years, starting from Norman times. Nowadays, the castle is partly public property and partly private.

Some say that everything related to Conversano "is almost as old as time." The beginnings of the settlement of the current city limits date back at least to the Iron Age, when the local indigenous people founded a settlement called Norba, on the remains of which the city of Conversano was built. In its historical part, at the highest point of the hill, there is the symbol of the city, built of limestone rocks - Castello di Conversano.

Conversano is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Bari and stands on the first hills of the Murgia, about 200 meters above sea level. It has very ancient origins, dating back to the Iron Age, and was the seat of a Norman county and then of various noble families. For this reason it has a rich historical and artistic heritage, including the castle, the cathedral, and the monastery of San Benedetto.

In the wood of Castiglione there is an imposing tower. This was a control structure for a medieval village and is flanked by a high and imposing city wall.

The Castiglione wood stands on a height of 260 m asl and is rich not only in flora and fauna, but also in history. It is possible to have the history of the forest told by the local guides.
