The austere buildings of the Hospice of Great St. Bernard are situated in a rocky pass through which an icy wind almost always blows, on the edge of a lake that is frozen for an average of 265 days a year and where winter lasts almost eight months. For nine centuries, the Canons Regular of the Order of St. Augustine, who settled here at the instigation of St. Bernard of Menthon, have maintained a tradition of helpfulness and hospitality. Travellers who wish to relax for a while in this peaceful place are welcome all year round.

A historic and iconic monastery and hospice, perched on the Swiss/Italian border, existing as a hospice for over 1000 years. The hospice is also renowned for creating the fantastic St. Bernard dogs, which were used for many years to rescue mountaineers in need of help and thus became an iconic symbol of Switzerland. Additionally, the monastery sits on the shores of the peaceful Grand St. Bernard Lake, a lake of brilliant blue waters with an iconic mountain backdrop. This area is a great place to visit in its own right, or to start one of the many hiking trails that start from here.

7월 12, 2023, Col de Champillon
The Col de Champillon, located at an altitude of 2,709 meters, offers a breathtaking panoramic view. From the top of the pass it is possible to admire many legendary peaks, such as Mont Blanc, the southern face of the Grand Combin and, to the south, the Gran Paradiso massif. The terrain gets steep in some sections on both sides, but the trail is easy and non-technical, so you can definitely sprint on the way down.

Here the dog breed St. Bernard was bred as rescue dogs for the search for avalanche victims and made known worldwide, above all, by Barry, who is said to have saved the lives of over 40 people. In 2005 the canons sold the Saint Bernard breeding to the Barry Foundation, as the canons felt that the longer they were, the more they were unable to take on the tasks of animal-friendly breeding and their hospitality. The breeding station for the dogs has since been located in the Musée et Chiens du Saint-Bernard in Martigny, but according to the deed of foundation, about half of the animals are on the pass as a tourist attraction all summer. In addition to the living dogs, there are of course omnipresent souvenirs from the famous dogs. (... from Wiki)
