아르비에는 중앙 계곡의 작은 분지에 위치하며, 계단식 포도밭으로 둘러싸여 있고 도라 발테아 강이 흐릅니다. 이 마을은 라 모테 성과 로마네스크 양식의 종탑과 같이 중세 시대의 흔적을 간직하고 있으며, 더 높은 알프스 지역으로 이어지는 여러 등반 코스가 시작되는 발그리센슈로 가는 입구 중 하나입니다.

Pila는 해발 약 1,800미터에 위치한 산악 지역으로, 아오스타 위에 있으며 겨울 스포츠와 여름 활동으로 모두 유명합니다. 그 위치 덕분에 전망이 뛰어난 곳입니다. 맑은 날에는 몽블랑에서 체르비노, 몬테 로사까지 발도스타 알프스 산맥의 상당 부분을 조망할 수 있습니다.

그레산은 아오스타 관문에 있는 코무네로, 도라 발테아의 오른쪽 지형에 위치하며 계곡의 더 높은 고도로 향하는 다양한 등반로로 가는 접근 지점입니다. 이곳에서부터 이 지역에서 가장 지속적인 오르막길 중 하나가 시작되며, 규칙적인 헤어핀 커브와 일정한 경사가 특징입니다.

Monument dedicated to the winner of the first Tour de France, Maurice Garin, originally from Chez-les-Garin (a group of houses above Leverogne, part of the municipality of Arvier) who then emigrated to France (and became a naturalized French citizen, so much so that he is listed as such in the roll of honour) to work as a chimney sweep.

The climb winds through a majestic valley (personally my favorite), never reaching excessive gradients; it's long but pedalable, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural surroundings. Apart from the peak season, there's almost no traffic, although you might encounter a few campers, which can be annoying on the way down. If you tackle the climb during periods of the year when there aren't too many tourists, you might, like me, have pleasant encounters with ibex and chamois that have come down to road level.
